FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi do?
We have weekly chapter meetings, fundraisers, social events, guest speakers, professional workshops, etc. We not only provide brothers with the opportunity for growth, leadership, and professional development but also have brotherhood events and attend social events with other organizations on campus.

Is AKPsi open to only men?
No! Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed professional business fraternity that is open to anyone who wishes to join. While we were founded as a male only fraternity in 1904, women have been admitted since 1976.

Do I have to be a business major to join AKPsi?
TCNJ students from any major are welcome to join! Our brothers comprise of students from many different departments ranging from biology to education.

What do I have to do to join?
In order to rush, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA, attend at least one Information Session, and attend at least one Meet the Brothers but you can come to more than one!

What happens if I can’t attend a rush event?
Reach out to us! We will try our best to work something out with you. Please email us at akpsi@tcnj.edu.

How do you determine if I get in?
We evaluate pledges much like an employer of a company, based on merit. We are looking for dedicated, hard working, goal-oriented, enthusiastic men and women who work well with others.

If I pledge, will I be hazed or forced to drink alcohol?
No! We have strict policies against any and all inappropriate behavior. It has no place in business and no place in Alpha Kappa Psi. For more details on our policies, ask us about our national regulations and codes concerning hazing, alcohol & drugs, and sexual harassment. Please also see TCNJ’s official hazing, alcohol & drug, and sexual harassment policies for information regarding our chapter specifically.

What does the pledge process involve?
Time and effort. We cover extensive professional and organizational skills as well as soft skills such as public speaking and body language. This includes professional workshops, interviews, social events, and fundraising. Our program is based on professional development, and success in the process is dependent on a person's ability to adapt to the business world and manage their time well.

How much are dues?
We are significantly less expensive than most Greek organizations, and it is money well invested. Member dues, which are collected every semester, are one payment of approximately $165. We understand that college students do have other obligations, so payment plans spread out throughout the semester are also possible in certain circumstances.

Are all members called brothers, or are people of other genders called something else?
All members regardless of gender are all called brothers. We make no distinctions between members based on gender, race, etc. Each member shares equal privileges, and to us the word "brother" transcends its gender implications by representing kinship, fraternal loyalty, and friendship.

Where can I find additional information about the fraternity?
